Being located in Canada, our office receives may W-8 form related inquiries throughout the year. Today, a client called regarding assistance with a W-8 form completion requested by their bank, one of the major Canadian banks. I inquired and learned that the bank had provided with her with what is now the outdated IRS version of this form since it's now just been updated as found at https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw8ben.pdf I thus advised the client to complete her info on the current IRS version and am posting this to help others be cognizant of this as well.
